WHAT IS NPSA?
RACING
NPSA RACING
NPSA is a "non-sanctioned" sailing club that sponsors a wide array of racing events. "Non-sanctioned" means that we are not recognized by CBYRA (Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association) and cannot compete in activities sponsored by CBYRA under NPSA's club affiliation. (Many NPSA members who wish to compete in CBYRA events simply join a "sanctioned" club as an associate member). While we do not race under ALL the rules stipulated in CBYRA's Greenbook, we do sail under USSailing's Rules.
We are proud to present many levels of racing!!
NPSA offers racing from "entry-level" (our Yellow or 'Novice' Fleet) to a more competitive Non-Spinnaker Fleet (Blue Fleet) to a very competitve Spinnaker Fleet (White Fleet).
Our Spinnaker Fleet has grown over the past few years and now includes five PHRF A boats on the line and nearly as many PHRF B boats. We have CBYRA High Point winners in our racing fleets and a winning boat from the 2003 Governor's Cup race.
We recieved some publicity lately, stating that NPSA is an "entry-level racing club." That publicity was incorrect. We are a racing club that offers an "ENTRY LEVEL" experience to those who wish to start racing and two other much more competitive fleets to those you want to compete on a higher level!!
Because our results are not part of a High Point system, our racing is very friendly. It is quite common for our sailors to spend time crewing on competitors' boats during the course of a season. Novices are almost always welcome to abandon their Novice Fleet for a race or two and jump on a White or Blue Fleet boat to gain experience and see what the more experienced racers have to offer. In this way, NPSA sailors build cordial relationships throughout the membership and can excellerate their racing and sailing learning curves drastically.
Protests are rare in NPSA racing (zero last year and only one in 2002). While we enforce the Racing Rules of Sailing, we are generally more tolerant of accidental violations and "intentional" violations are extremely rare. We are sailing principally to have FUN!
NPSA offers a unique racing perspective and if you are not yet part of the racing action our Wednesday Night PHRF events provide, you should definitely contact NPSA.
We'd love to see your boat on our starting line or your name on our Crew Roster!
NPSA CRUISING
NPSA offers a number of cruises to destinations that are an easy daysail from the mouth of the Patapso. The cruises begin early in the season and culminate in October with the club's classic Tolchester Cruise.
