RUDDER BEARING REPAIR? NEED HELP

First thing is to remove the rudder & check to see is the shaft is corroded.
Many of these shafts suffer this failure.
If the play is wear in the lower section of the tube, you can use the West System trick were you wax up the shaft & drill 3 or 4 holes in the tube & inject epoxy & filler in. We've done this on several boats, it work well.

Musicman is right on, make sure you know if it is the hole, the shaft or both.

If the rudder post IS corroded you have to get it round again. Build it up with aluminum and grind it round. Then if the hole is out of round use the west system with graphite. Doing it in reverse order will create a hole hole that will be out of round, filling the voids in the corrosion on the rudder post and then the rudder post won't turn.
