Approximate sail cost

Postby Motorboat!! » Wed Sep 10, 2008 4:06 pm

Does anybody have a ballpark figure for what a new carbon or kevlar racing main should cost?

Been a few years but I would say depending on who you go with $2,200 to $2,800.

There are a few sailmakers out there that have owned Evelyns!

Ullman

Postby Pterobyte » Fri Sep 12, 2008 9:27 am

Check with Jerry Lattell. He is working on my boat. I have mostly new Ullman sails out of the Cleveland loft. Jerry is working on my boat on the Cheseapeak.

Sail cost

Postby Motorboat!! » Sun Sep 14, 2008 2:49 pm

Thanks
I am actually going with Ullman sails, a local guy here, Dave Bolyard, has made just about every sail the boat has ever had. Pretty excited to see what difference it makes upwind.

I bought new Kevlar North Sails 3DL main and 3DL #1 (155%) and will share qoute (last year's pricing, will need to find paperwork).

I also ordered a North Sails S2 60 Norlite .6 Spinnaker in 2008 for $2483.

I am now ordering North Sails Kevlar #2 (145%) and #3 (100%) at $5,745 for BOTH sails which includes Sept 2008 discount of 15%.

I think I'm done buying sails for ~three years now.

Go with North Sails and stick to Kevlar; North 3DL main and 3DL #1 well worth the investment over paneled sails IMHO. Sail shape is amazing and fast!

Hope this helps -- will get main and #1 pricing posted tomorrow.

Definitely check with John Fries up at UK/Halsey, Mystic. John's loft (it was Halsey/Lidgard back then) built the sails that won him the 1st at KWRW and he did the first A-sail development that I'm aware of for these boats, and kicked ass with the Asails.Pricing was excellent on the 2 sails I bought from him. They are selling "Remedy" so some deals might be available on some used inventory, too.

you can PM him on SA Forums "musicman" or contact the loft

Sail Quotes

Postby darkstar32170 » Tue Sep 23, 2008 12:31 pm

I know it doesn't exactly answer your question but I recently got a quote from Hood for a new heavy no 1 (145%). They built the sails for "Bluto" Ben Hall and Bill Berges'es boat.

Evelyn 32
I: 38 J: 12.7 145% LP 18.41 est. area 365 (area is ultimately based on rake and so the luff length)
4.0 oz Hood Woven Vektron: $2,340
6.0 oz Hood Woven Vektron: $2,750
DP GPL Carbon laminate: $4,165

Ours largest headsail is a 145%. The credit keeps our rating just over 100 (PHRF-NB) so class splits at 100 make us scratch boat.

What loft did you end up working with and what was the cost... if you don't mind me asking! Have fun with those new sails. I am jealous.

I went with Ullman, via the local sailmaker David Bolyard. He has built some sails for the Farr 36 I was racing on, and they were really nice, plus he has better customer service than anybody I have ever dealt with, wich is probably the main selling point for me. He also promised me he could have them for me before the end of October (get them today actually) when nobody else could.

Anyway, for the carbon main and a kevlar AP #1 it was $6k total. Hopefully I can get some pictures pretty soon.

I'll second this, John is making me a new carbon GPL # 1 to replace the last one which performed perfectly. They have some good winter pricing right now.

Thanks for mentioning my loft & our work with the E 32. I'm quite confident that we have the fastest designs you can possibly get for the 32 & the tunning info to go with it. Our pricing is very good too!
Remedy has proven to be the most dominant 32 around both in class & PHRF.
If any of you would like quotes or to discuss the boat feel free to e-mail me at: friessaildesign@gmail.com
I can also be reached at the UK Halsey Mystic loft: (860) 536 4235.
