Rudder Help E26

Postby paul » Sat May 25, 2013 5:48 pm

I posted this before in E26 section but no response, thought I'd try here.

Boat is an Evelyn 26OD, my rudder has rot, most (if not all) seem to be in non-wetted section above the foil. I've tapped around and found lots of soft spots, cut out a 6"x6"
panel and found the edge-grain balsa black and/or decomposed. Construction seems to be a center board made of f/g(?) or coated ply with balsa on both sides before glassed and gelcoat.

My questions are:

1) Are there any details available on Ev rudder component detail dwgs, etc.

2) Foil section seems solid and no soft spots, is this same construction as headstock?

3) Should I bother to fix or can it and purchase new. I'd hoped to do it this winter but got behind on things. As I don't race too much I could do some temp work on it
for this season, get it next yr. The E26 rudder is stern-mounted like a J24/29; replacement costs from what I see is $750-2000 range, depending what you want.

Anyone work on one of these before? I thought Pterobyte helped with one.

Thanks,
Paul Smith
