Velocitor in Annapolis

Postby velocitor » Sun Oct 07, 2012 2:32 pm

Hello everyone!

Just wanted to introduce "Velocitor" to the East Coast.
Formally "The Wagon" of Boston, and "Kiss" of Toronto.
Not sure what the hull number is, but pretty sure it is a C&C.

A lot of work has gone into the bat since picking it up in Early May this year.
In fact, it never hit the water.

It will definitely be doing BIRW 2013, Screwpile, Round Long Island, and possibly Marblehead to Halifax.
Long distance races will be done double-handed.

Lots of glass work has been done.
The old headliner is out, and so are the old cabinets.
Spent over 10 days removing old bottom paint and fairing the hull and keel down to gel coat.

Thru deck where chainplates enter was completely re-cored with solid glass.
Bulkheads re-worked and glassed up.
Custom beam of destiny installed.

Stiffeners under the cockpit were added, since this boat has a cutout stern.
I found core rot in stern and fixed that as well as the seam where the deck met the transom.
I could see daylight, DOH!

All the other areas of the deck where miscellaneous modifications were made to bring the forestay aft have been repaired.
Better to discuss this topic with me while I am confined to a straight jacket.
Can you say "Pandora's Box"?

Keel sump appears to be stiffened, it has some nice biax fiberglass beams.
I will be stiffening the box even more before it hits the water in the Spring.
I agree with other owners that this area cannot be stiffened enough.
I am essentially going to make my sump solid, and box the beams in as well.
I plan on having the stiffest E32 keel sump in the fleet.
I was not happy when I had the boat up on the trailer stands and was able to feel the keel flex back and forth.
It did not flex a lot, but a little is enough for me to start mixing West Systems and add more glass.

Will add some pictures into the thread as well.

Look forward to hearing from some of you.

Thanks,

Chris

Excellent! Cool to see another E-322 pass through the Annapolis gauntlet ;-)

DH on the E-322 ought to be a challenge....they do like the rail loaded up with a lot of hefty people. Where are you in Annapo? I'd love to see the boat sometime!

thanks for the update,

Nice . . please post pix! It's good to see folks being interested enough in these boat to put time, money, blood, sweat and tears into them. They are definately worth it.

Glad to see another E32-2 getting restored. If you are in for 2013 BIRW there should be 4 Evelyns there. BIRW is a great event. We look forward to seeing you there

Velocitor is now named Tango

Postby Tango » Thu Sep 19, 2013 3:52 pm

Hello,

Just wanted to provide an update to the E-32-2 rebuild saga.

The boat name is Tango because it will be orange.
I figured since I am rebuilding it, why not be totally brash.

The boat has been moved to Delaware.
It is not clear whether it will be sailed out of Lewes or Indian River Inlet.
The Indian River Inlet has a new bridge with 45' of clearance.

Now to the boat....

I have decided to replace the bulkheads and stiffen the keel sump even more.
The old rudder decide to delaminate even though the boat had not been put in the water by me.
I pulled the rudder to look at it, and wow it was over 100 lbs., and soggy.
But after dissecting, it produced an awesome carbon fiber rudder post.

As many of you probably know already, this is the old "Wagon".
It has a cut out stern.

So, here is the task list to get it ready for double-handed next Spring:

1) Finish the new NACA 014 rudder
2) Fill the and repair deck
3) New deck paint and non skid "Tuff Coat"
4) Complete epoxy topside and bottom finish. There will be no anti fouling.
5) Replace shroud bulkheads
6) Stiffen keel sump, I am seeing cracks at keel root.
7) Replace several life line stanchions with new Signet reinforced maxi stanchions
8) New wireless triducer and wind direction/wind speed intruments

Oh. I forgot new suit of sails, and 10% increase in boom length.

If I do not run out of money, and time.

Look forward to seeing some of you at the Round Long Island and Ida Lewis distance race next year.

Flying Cloud out of Sodus Bay, Lake Ontario

Postby Tango » Tue Apr 12, 2022 8:09 pm

Hello Evelyn 32-2 Sailors,
After nine years, my Evelyn which was supposed to be called Velocitor, then Tango is now called "Flying Cloud"
No longer going to be on the Chesapeake, but Lake Ontario.
I have done a complete renovation on this hull.
Pretty sure the hull is #25.
1) New home built rudder
2) New full Okume/Fiberglass composite bulkheads forward and aft
3) New fiberglass/alumimum plate mast step slightly forward
4) Keel bolts extended through solid fiberglass filled keel sump with G10 stringers. "Look mom, no more swinging!"
5) Alll of the stanchion bases were beefed up. G10 pads on deck with composite pads glassed under deck for 5/16 through bolts.
6) No more aluminum toe rails. The deck/hull sheer seam was rebedded with 5200, then through deck pop riveted every 3 inches bow to stern, then glassed with multiple 6" 1708 biax fiberglass tape layers making a stiff right angle rail around the hull.
7) The bottom and keel were completely long board faired, epoxy barrier coated, and finished with a Teflon Urethane for fresh water racing.
8) The top sides were redone with six coats of Pettit Easy-Poxy with performance enhancer.
This paint has been great, nearly as hard as Imron or AwlGrip.
9) The boat has been converted to A-Sails with a 4 foot wishbone bowsprit.
10) Cockpit reinforced with two full layers of 50" biax
11) Deck stress points glassed with 1708 biax
12) Deck fully sanded and repainted with Total Boat Non Skid
13) Original winches will be reinstalled, all new jib tracks and deck hardware will be installed.

A2 1001 sqft, A4 822 sqft, Code Zero 528sqft.
Largest LP jib is 103% Jibtop.
E for boom is still standard at 12ft.
All new shrouds, forestay, turn buckles etc.
Added a replacement Lewmar Ocean 60 Hatch not shown in attached pictures.

See you at LYRA in July!

Thanks for posting the update. Very cool to see.

I'm especially curious to hear how the asymmetric on a sprit setup works out for you. Is it fixed? Or does it rotate/retract or something? How big of a rating penalty do you get?
