Greetings fellow Evelyn 26 fans! Our new (new to us) Evelyn 26 "Nimbus" attracted quite a bit of attention in the Duwamish Head Race. We sail with a masthead spinnaker and, as advised in other posts, keep our weight forward. It seemd pretty fast downwind in light air that way.

Apologies for the spelling error. PD keeps referring to it as DUAMish Head, and after I read your response, I googled it and saw the missing W!

so Duwamish Head it is! (never been to Seattle)

Congratulation Nimbus on a first place !!!! In such a big fleet. Feels good :-) so tell me about your masthead rig for the spinnaker? My bout is out of the water and doing an overhaul. Looking at the frack rigged mast there is a forward facing slot at the top but no sheave. I thought about taking the exit block out from current location and moving it to the top. How did you achieve this? Pictures? Is your bout an Inboard or outboard? What PHRF did they give you?

Thanks and congratulations

The boat came set up for a mast head spinnaker as well as the class one, so I haven't looked at it that carefully. Next time we get a clear day I'll take some pictures. We rate 180 PHRF and use the same pole for both chutes. We have an outboard, but it really makes the boat vibrate and is very noisy down below. Is that common with these boats? We were wondering if it were worth changing the metal the backing plate for the motor mount. We want to cruise a bit too, so it would be nice if it were a bit more quiet.

Wow, 180? Around here the J24 is 171 and the Merit 25 is 174 and both are frac kites. I would definitely take your PHRF measurer out for dinner! ;-)

Maybe the ratings are a bit slower the PNW. J24's usually rate 186 (although some are 183) and the Merrit 25 rates 185. At 180, we are the same as the S2 7.9. Given the winter weather, we haven't been doing much racing to see if that seems about right. Our masthead is actually a bit shy of being full sized, and we use a standard length pole. With the class chute, we rate 183, so our masthead is not that much bigger.
