Liquordale to Key Wasted - Jan 13

Postby admin » Wed Jan 06, 2010 10:22 pm

Damn man, we all should be down there! "Bluto" is racing IRC and Russ Horn has "Jammin'" signed up in PHRF. These 2 met back at Screwpile in, I dunno, 2003? when 'Bluto" was "Direwolf." Terry owned "Jammin'" and beat us by a couple places mid-fleetish...we had a blast. Too bad the boats are not being scored in the same fleet, but it's cool seeing the old girls doing some distance races. I pity them both if the breeze goes south and pipes up into the mid 20's. "Jammin'" will be up against "L'Outrage," so it seems like old times on the Chesapeake.

One year some you sumnabeeches sign up for this race and I'll stay below and mix drinks and make sammies & soup for y'all.

Well, I'm jealous for one. Just need a find a trailer and I can join the east coast boys. That and just need to put the boat back together.
It's gonna be a cold and windy KWRW this year.

It is a shame that Jammin and Bluto won't be in the same class. Given the rating spread between Bluto & a Stock 32 I don't think you'll ever see them in the same class.
Bluto's IRC rating of 1.010 equals 87 in PHRF, a stock IB Evelyn 32 rates .978 which is 108 PHRF.
21 seconds/mile is pretty far apart & would almost always be on the other side of a class split in most major events.
Have a look at this IRC/PHRF table: http://www.phrfne.org/page/handicapping/asdg

http://www.yachtscoring.com/event_scrat ... fm?eID=297

It will be very interesting to see what rating Bluto ends up with at KWRW. Base for an IB 32 at KW is 99, OB 93.
So, using the IRC/PHRF conversion that would put Bluto at 78 given the 21 sec/mile spread between the stock IB & modded OB boat.

All the best folks!

It's almost as cold in Florida as it is on Lake Ontario right now... hopefully the water is a bit warmer!

Have fun, I'll be following the tracker!

Its interesting that Jammin's elapsed time is better than Bluto's despite Bluto being turbo'ed. The same thing was true between Bluto and the ex Remedy in the 'Round the Island Race portion of Block Island Race week earlier this year. I know they started in different classes and conditions might be slightly different as a result, but that would be a whole lot less important in a distance race.

Congratulations to "Bluto," owners Bill Berges & Ben Hall, and crew on a great, consistent week of racing at KWRW. The value of all our E32-2's just went up $5000 (just kiddin'). Hope to see you in Narragansett Bay this summer.

I don't know if anybody from Bluto reads this, but if so, I would sure like to hear a little summary about the boat prep, crew organization, transportation, etc. that went into a very successful KWRW. It has been a few years since I have raced down there, and always on somebody else's boat. Just curious to see what is done before the regatta that separates 1st place from the rest.

Yes, huge congrats to Ben & Bill and crew.

David, I know you were being a little facetious about the increase in value, but it's definitely true to a certain extent. We can all thank Musicman and the Bluto peeps and the XLR8 guys and girls, all of whom have put the E 32-2 in places to earn a bunch of respect for the design, in the last few years. And also anyone else who has won some hardware anywhere else with their 32-2's.

Make no mistake, whenever someone wins a big event, be it Block or Key West, the value of all the sisterships (unless they are totally trashed) goes up...that's the way works, as anyone who might've tried to buy a J29 in the mid-late 80's can tell ya!

Way to go Bluto!
